Danaboyina Rupa Vani was on Thursday unanimously elected president of the Duggirala Mandal Praja Parishad, which was reserved for BC woman.

A declaration to this effect by the returning officer brought the curtains down on the tense situation that earlier prevailed.

The Telugu Desam Party decided not to field a candidate after the candidature of Sk. Zubeen had been rejected on the grounds that she did not possess a valid caste certificate.
