EXPLAINED: Tesla considers moving registration from delaware to texas | Rare Historical Photos

Tesla's electric vehicle (EV) moves on a street in Beijing

Tesla considers changing its registration state to Texas, according to a recent poll conducted by billionaire CEO Elon Musk. Currently headquartered in Texas, the electric vehicle manufacturer is contemplating a move away from Delaware, where it is currently registered. The decision comes on the heels of a court ruling invalidating Musk's $51 billion salary package due to a lack of proof regarding the fairness of the compensation plan.

Delaware has long been an attractive choice for business registration, with nearly 70% of Fortune 500 companies incorporating there. This popularity stems from the state's business-friendly legal framework and favorable tax policies. However, Musk's recent poll indicates a potential shift towards Texas.
