At PC Gamer we have some pretty straightforward criteria for what makes a great laptop game. First: Game's gotta be good. Second: Game's gotta be good in a way that doesn't entirely rely on playing with a mouse or controller, or at 4K, 120 fps with ray tracing set to melt-my-GPU.
The best laptop games are PC games that you can play on slightly lower settings, with slightly less demanding controls, without having a bad time. That said, we'll still play a first person shooter on a gaming laptop thanks to a handy travel mouse, and today's laptops often have powerful graphics cards and even high refresh monitors—the limitations of gaming on the go are mostly in the past.
