69-year-old Claude Guillemot, one of the five co-founders of Ubisoft, died in a plane crash on June 19. Family was identified later in the day, with the general public learning of the incident a day after, on Saturday.
The crash occurred in La Baule, a French resort town. Per Reuters, quoting local newspaper Ouest-France, an air show was scheduled for the weekend at the venue. Guillemot, 69, was one of the two passengers of the twin-engine Cessna 421 plane that crashed. Neither has survived the accident. Guillemot owned the aircraft, and reports from French outlets suggest he was traveling with a flight instructor called Marc Guillet.
It is not yet confirmed whether Guillemot was flying the plane. The Saint-Nazaire prosecutor’s office has opened an inquiry for involuntary manslaughter, but no clear details have been forthcoming just yet.
