The Anangu people of Australia's desert outback have lived with the great red rock known as Uluru for more than 30,000 years, revering it as sacred and central to their Dreamtime stories.
Sunday marks 40 years since Uluru was officially returned to the custodianship of the Anangu, recalling the 1985 handback ceremony that marked a symbolic high point for land rights.
