The recent US Senate border bill has left many 'Dreamers' feeling neglected and abandoned. As discussions surrounding immigration reform continue to dominate the political landscape, it seems that the fate of these young undocumented individuals remains uncertain. With much attention being given to border security and enforcement, the plight of the Dreamers has oftentimes fallen by the wayside.
The Dreamers, also known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, are a group of young immigrants who were brought to the United States as children illegally. Through the DACA program, implemented under the Obama administration in 2012, these individuals were granted temporary protection from deportation and given the opportunity to work legally in the country. It provided a respite for hundreds of thousands of young people who grew up in the US and saw it as their only home.
