The United States has imposed visa restrictions on dozens of Nicaraguan officials, accusing them of having “undermined democracy” in the aftermath of President Daniel Ortega’s successful re-election last year.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday that 93 officials – including judges, prosecutors, interior ministry officials and members of Nicaragua’s national assembly – were targeted. The names of the people were not released.
