Gabriel "Gabe" Perez, a teleprompter operator for President Donald Trump , has been placed on unpaid administrative leave amid allegations of insider trading.
Perez is accused of winning over $100,000 by betting on the content of Trump's speeches using his advance knowledge on the prediction market platform Kalshi .
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is investigating Perez after Kalshi reported suspicious activity, and Perez has reportedly acknowledged some of the trades.
Trump's press secretary confirmed Perez's leave and compliance with the CFTC, stating that Trump found the situation "deeply unfortunate and frankly a disgrace."
The incident underscores broader concerns among regulators and lawmakers regarding insider trading in prediction markets, leading to discussions about new legislation and internal warnings within the White House .
