NEW DELHI: Veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad quit the party and severed his 50-year association with it on Friday. The five-page letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi ahead of the election for the organisation’s president next month comes as a rude shock to the principal opposition party.
Azad’s resignation triggered speculation about his next move. A section of political pundits speculated that Azad, who comes from Jammu and Kashmir, may join the BJP. They added that the BJP may also declare him as the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the next election in Jammu and Kashmir.
