THE TRUTH ABOUT: I made a life size crane sculpture out of cutlery - Caught on Camera

I’ve been a metal artist for about 7 years now, and had been planning to make a piece out of cutlery for a while now. Collecting discarded flatware from thrift stores and yard sales I was able to save up buckets full of knives, forks, and spoons – and last year I received a commission for a 25th (silver) Wedding Anniversary gift of a Sandhill Crane sculpture!

I have about 1600 pieces of silverware in this sculpture, as well as some rebar (for the legs) and other support pieces.

Her name is “Oneida” and she looks ready to take off!

I made eyes for her in my glass studio

She stands a little over 5′ (152cm) tall

The last thing I did was add some branches to support her
