AHMEDABAD: When Sunil Patel (32) was looking for a bride, he faced 102 rejections. His proposals for marriage were refused because he made it a point to tell the prospective brides that he was a convict and had spent five years in jail in a counterfeit currency case.
Patel’s insistence on declaring his criminal past was due to the influence of the Gandhian ideals of truth and nonviolence on him. During his incarceration, he discovered Gandhian philosophy and decided to remain transparent about his past.
