EXPLAINED: Electric van drivers could cut fuel bills by ps2 400 a year | Vintage Vibes

An electric van like the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo could help van drivers slash their running costs - (Volkswagen)

Van drivers could cut their annual fuel bill by around £2,400 by swapping diesel for electricity, according to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. But there’s an important detail behind that saving: the van needs to be plugged in at home or a depot on a cheap overnight tariff.

The company calculates that a driver covering 13,190 miles a year, the average in VWCV’s research, would spend around £2,770 on diesel. Covering the same distance in an electric van would cost about £369 in electricity, a reduction of up to 87 per cent. That works out at roughly £200 a month saved on keeping the van moving.
