When the ‘first look’ images of Love Story were unveiled in June 2025, fashion folk were up in arms. Ryan Murphy’s fictionalised drama series about John F. Kennedy Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly) and Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon) seemed to have got the latter’s style totally wrong.
They’d used the wrong Birkin! Her hair was the wrong shade of blonde! And didn’t that coat look more Karen Millen than Calvin Klein? I participated in the inflammatory outpouring myself, and remember interviewing a bemused Camille Charrière and Sunita Kumar Nair (who quite literally wrote the book on CBK style) about the apparent sartorial misfires.
