Paris-Roubaix 2026 Preview

This year’s Paris-Roubaix route covers 258.3 kilometers from Compiègne to the famous Roubaix Velodrome with 54.8 kilometers of savage pavé split across 30 secteurs. It’s these cobbled roads that make this race world famous, that have given it its ‘The Hell of the North’ epithet and what make it without doubt the greatest spectacle in all of cycling.

This year, significant changes have been made to the route by the organizers who have front loaded the parcour by placing five vicious cobbled sectors together in quick succession much earlier on than before. This is throwing fuel on what is already a raging fire and will result in absolute bedlam in the peloton with every rider wanting to be in the right position when the action kicks off.

The two favorites for victory are the two greatest cobbled classics riders of this or maybe any generation, Mathieu van der Poel and Tadej Pogačar. Having won three in a row, Van der Poel is out to equal Roger De Vlaeminck and Tom Boonen's record by taking a fourth title but Pogačar is still trying to break his duck.

One tiny mistake arguably cost the Slovenian his chance in 2025, so this year he will be hoping for that perfect ride to complete the grand slam of cycling’s Monuments. Fans have been waiting 12 months for this battle to play out again and are salivating at the prospect.

Add in the challenge that will come form an in form Wout van Aert, a resurgent Mads Pedersen together with myriad other stars, and we are set maybe for one of the all-time classic editions.
