What the Numbers on Your PNR Status Actually Say
When your IRCTC booking confirmation lands in your inbox, the PNR number at the top is your ticket's identity. Every status update Indian Railways pushes to that 10-digit number tells you exactly where you stand in the queue. The format reads as current status / chart status. So WL/45 means you are at position 45 on the waitlist before charting, and the second field will update once the chart is prepared. A status that reads CNF means confirmed. S5/32 means Coach S5, berth number 32. The numbers are not random, they follow a strict sequence that the reservation system updates in real time as cancellations come in.
