Nisha Dahiya's valiant effort to win her maiden senior World Wrestling Championships medal ended in a heartbreak when she went down fighting against Canada's Linda Morais after suffering a painful injury in her right leg in the women's 68kg category bronze medal playoff in Belgrade on Thursday night.
Nisha, who had lost a close bout to reigning junior world champion Ami Ishii of Japan in the semifinals, took early lead against Morais in the repechage round and gained a four-point advantage through a couple of takedowns. However, with a minute left in the first half of the medal bout, Morais first effected a takedown for two points and then grabbed hold of Nisha's right leg to execute a fall to level the score at 4 each.
