NAGPUR: When the going gets tough, Faiz Fazal gets going. The southpaw opener had had a topsy turvy ride on the field and off it in the last 15 days. He was surprisingly sidelined as Vidarbha captain just before the team left for one-dayers and his bat also remained a bit silent. Such phases are tricky for a player to deal with. And Vidarbha's most successful batter knew the only way to come out of the rug was by getting to his favourite destination — a three-figure mark.
On Wednesday, Faiz (120; 133b, 11x4, 4x6) slammed century when he needed it the most. He made his bat do the talking with outstanding command which propelled Vidarbha to a 9-run win over Jharkhand in the last league match of Vijay Hazare Trophy in Kolkata.
