Treasurer Jim Chalmers will reiterate the benefits of Australia's trade relationship with the US when he sits down for the first time with his American counterpart Scott Bessent.

The face-to-face talk in Washington DC on Tuesday morning local time will be the second meeting between the pair but the first since Mr Bessent was sworn in as US treasury secretary.
