Donald Trump’s tariff regime has drawn an unusual opponent: one of the largest Orthodox Jewish organisations in the US, which says proposed duties on vegetable-based fatty acids could disrupt the supply of basic ingredients used in kosher foods, according to a report by Bloomberg .

It warned that tariffs on fatty acids derived from palm and other vegetable oils could increase costs for kosher food without necessarily encouraging meaningful domestic production.
