Bad days happen, but a few funny and uplifting posts can sometimes make things feel more manageable. This collection highlights cheerful memes and wholesome internet moments perfect for anyone in need of a quick pick-me-up.
The feeling of scrolling past a video of a golden retriever befriending a tiny duckling is more than just a momentary distraction because it actually triggers a complex series of neurological events. It all starts with what psychologists call the baby schema which refers to specific physical features like large eyes and rounded faces that evolution has programmed us to find irresistible.
The handler, Michael Hingson, did a great inteview on the Youtube Channel Blinddave
When we see these features our brains activate the orbitofrontal cortex and the striatum which are regions associated with reward and emotion processing. This reaction is not just about finding something cute because it also ignites a powerful motivation to protect and care for the subject. This biological pull is so strong that even digital exposure to pets can increase our attention toward positive emotions while making us less sensitive to negative ones.
I worked at a call center 15 years ago. I collapsed at work due to a diabetic complication and was taken out on a stretcher. A kind, sweet, handsome stranger shielded me from view the whole time while I was sobbing and covering my face out of embarrassment. He's been my best friend from that point forward, and is now my boyfriend of one year.
This is frequently accompanied by a boost in dopamine and serotonin which are the primary neurotransmitters responsible for happiness and stability. Together these chemicals create a sense of safety and calm that serves as a direct antidote to the cortisol spikes we often experience during a typical day of digital navigation.
There is also a beautiful psychological concept known as kama muta which is a Sanskrit term that translates to being moved by love. This specific emotion occurs when we feel a sudden intensification of communal sharing such as when a stranger helps an elderly person or a community rallies around a neighbor.
This is really beautiful. My family and I are currently sitting in a hospital waiting for my father to pass away. (He's in a coma, on hospice care, and expected to go at any time) We've been sharing childhood memories and funny stories about him. The ways he impacted my life are immeasurable. ❤️
Research shows that wholesome social media content frequently predicts a kama muta response which leaves viewers feeling physically warm or even slightly tearful in a positive way. This feeling reminds us that we are part of a larger social fabric and it reinforces our belief in the inherent goodness of others which is essential for our mental wellbeing.
For those who are confused, the game in question is a game called Ássássin's Creed. The logo for the games (there are several) is indeed a sort of pointy arrowhead shape very similar to this kitty's marking. So the developers for one of the Ássássin's Creed games had the art team put the real kitty into one of the games! I think that's the main character of the game snuggling the kitty in the screenshot.
Furthermore our affinity for wholesome content is driven by something called psychological contagion. This is the process where emotions and behaviors ripple through social networks almost like a friendly wave. When we see someone performing a selfless act we are often unconsciously inspired to mimic that behavior or at least adopt a similar mindset.
This creates a kindness contagion where positive energy snowballs as it moves from one person to another. This is why a single uplifting post can often lead to a comment section filled with supportive stories and encouragement rather than the typical debates found elsewhere online.
RIP my friend. You brought a lot of people a lot of joy... and painting
By sending a wholesome video to a friend you are essentially saying that you thought of them and want them to feel the same joy you just experienced. This practice helps manage our relationships and creates a shared emotional language that is deeply rewarding for both the sender and the receiver.
Awww, I truly miss my chickens 😞 far more intelligent than you'd think. RIP Nixhen, Peaches, Freebird and Attila the Hen
My brother got my mom one, and for a while it was great. Then the squirrels took it over.
In our modern world where information can sometimes feel overwhelming wholesome content serves as a necessary soft reset for the nervous system. It shifts our perspective from a state of high alert to a state of connection and empathy. By consciously choosing to engage with uplifting stories we are not just ignoring the world but rather we are training our brains to recognize and value hope.
This practice improves our emotional regulation and helps us maintain a balanced view of humanity. Ultimately our brains like wholesome things because they remind us of what it means to be human and they provide the chemical and emotional fuel we need to navigate life with a little more grace and a lot more heart.
Japanese bird native to Hokkiado, the Shima Enaga. Too cute for words.
Don't know why but this makes me a little bit leaky in the eye area. Bless these older dogs.
I always said if I won the lottery I would buy empty lots for sale around town and make dog parks, greenways, and community gardens.
Oh my gosh, vegetable and meat in broth in a bowl... Indeed soup
We aren't born prejudiced against those who don't look like us or who don't speak the same language we do. When we are young, we try to make connections with others regardless of what their skin color is or what language they speak. We are born with love and with a desire to make a connection. We are taught to hate and fear.
"Crepuscular rays (also called sun rays and sunbeams) are created when sunlight shines through gaps in clouds and continues through an atmosphere that contains dust and/or haze. This dust or haze scatters some of the bright light that can be seen against the darker cloud and/or darker blue sky background."
This is Jack (pic in reply). Jack has a unique smile. That's due to a birth defect, called a canine maloclusion. Its usually a sign of inbreeding or overbreeding. Its most likely Jack was from a backyard breeder, churning out wolfdogs for money. When they saw that, they dumped him in the woods. Jack, however, was found by a ranger who does coyote rescue. At that age, wolf pups and coyote pups look a lot a like, so she brought him home and raised him. She did a great job, he'd even go swimming in the pool with the kids. But within a year he turned into this, and she realized that's no coyote. Due to laws in her state, she could not keep Jack, so he was brought to Howling Woods, where he is living his best life. He's currently our best howler, sounding like something straight out of Hollywood. And at least once a year his family comes to visit, and he gets super excited to see them.
These were a great change from a lot of the negative stories BP has been posting lately. Thanks for the positive change, Justin and Indrė!
No celebrities and no politics(more or less), a nice change.
